Hearing Aid FAQs

It is recommended that you visit your audiologist every 6 to 12 months to get your hearing aids checked and reprogrammed to extend their lifespan. It may be time to upgrade if:

  • Your hearing aids whistle or buzz
  • There are any changes in your hearing
  • You have trouble hearing on the phone or in noisy circumstances
  • Your hearing aids are not working as well as they once did
  • You have difficulty using your hearing aids

An audiologist considers your hearing ability, preferences, lifestyle, and budget to recommend the right hearing aids for you.

  • Hearing Loss Evaluation: Your audiologist will conduct a hearing evaluation to determine your hearing ability across a range of sounds. She will then plot your test results on an audiogram to understand your hearing ability, and based on that she will recommend a hearing aid that can help you overcome your hearing loss.
  • Preferences: There are different styles and sizes of hearing aids available, which include invisible in canal, in the ear, behind the ear, full shell in the ear, and more. Some people prefer small hearing aids, whereas others prefer larger models to ensure easy handling and cleaning. Your audiologist will consider your personal preferences and ensure the device she recommends provides the sound quality and fit you desire.
  • Lifestyle and Budget: You can discuss your lifestyle, expectations, and budget for the hearing aids with your audiologist. Based on the details you provide she will help you choose the device that best suits you.

Your hearing aid preferences should be based on:

  • How the hearing aids work
  • The different styles of hearing aids and their price range
  • Additional features such as rechargeable batteries, directional microphones, environmental noise control, noise reduction, volume control, and more.
